The WTS series includes a range of intelligent tactile sensor modules with integrated signal processor, which was specifically designed for the requirements in robotics and handling technology. Despite the fully encapsulated design and its rugged construction, the WTS sensor modules feature a highly sensitive sensor matrix that allows a precise detection of very light contact forces.

Sensor Matrix

Active sensing technology for high performance measurements

Main ele­ment of the sen­sor modu­le is a high­ly sen­si­ti­ve resis­ti­ve pres­su­re sen­sor matrix. Due to its spe­cial design, the indi­vi­du­al sen­sor cells can be strung tog­e­ther seam­less­ly, wit­hout the occur­rence of any “blind” are­as on the sen­sing sur­face. The paten­ted active scan­ning pro­cess enab­les a pre­ci­se acqui­si­ti­on of even high­ly dyna­mic pres­su­re pro­files with an excel­lent selec­tivi­ty. The adjus­ta­ble ana­log front-end and the inte­gra­ted signal pro­ces­sor pro­vi­de high-qua­li­ty pres­su­re pro­fi­le detec­tion wit­hout the need of addi­tio­nal com­pon­ents.

USB 2.0 and UART interface

Directly connect the WTS sensors to any computer

Tac­tile sen­sing modu­les of the WTS series have both a UART and a USB 2.0 inter­face. While its UART inter­face is pre­fer­a­b­ly sui­ta­ble for a simp­le con­nec­tion to embed­ded con­trol solu­ti­ons, the USB inter­face allows full band­width pres­su­re pro­fi­le acqui­si­ti­on. To faci­li­ta­te the inte­gra­ti­on into custom app­li­ca­ti­ons, the WTS modu­les will emu­la­te a vir­tu­al seri­al port via USB (CDC pro­fi­le), so no addi­tio­nal dri­vers are requi­red for major ope­ra­ting sys­tems. Whe­ther UART or USB, the WTS sen­sor modu­les sup­port a well-docu­men­ted com­mu­ni­ca­ti­on pro­to­col pro­vi­ding power­ful com­mands for data acqui­si­ti­on.

The free soft­ware tool WTS Com­man­der allows an easy intro­duc­tion to the tac­tile sen­sor tech­no­lo­gy and faci­li­ta­tes the com­mu­ni­ca­ti­on with the WTS sen­sor modu­les by pro­vi­ding a com­mand edi­tor and com­mu­ni­ca­ti­on log­ging func­tio­n­a­li­ty. The WTS tac­tile sen­sor modu­les are avail­ab­le in dif­fe­rent sizes and with dif­fe­rent moun­ting opti­ons. In addi­ti­on, cus­to­mi­zed solu­ti­ons are pos­si­ble that per­fec­t­ly fit your needs.
